It’s a great privilege to photograph a wedding.

There are no other moments in which so much energy is directed towards the love between two people. It’s great to watch two families come together, each with their own history, and begin to share.

While it’s wonderful to witness, photographing a wedding is something I take very seriously. It’s a day filled with the moments that shape our memories. The photographs I make help to define those memories for a couple, their parents, their relatives. Someday, those photos get handed down through generations. That’s a big job and an important one. It means a lot that a couple entrusts me to do it.

Over my 15-year career I’ve covered everything from the NBA Finals to the tsunami off the coast of Indonesia. Both my peers and my clients recognize the quality of my work. I won Newspaper Photographer of the Year twice and was part of a team awarded a Pulitzer Prize. I am also one of the founding members of pdxcross, a collective of photographers chronicling the Oregon cyclocross scene. The greatest joy in my life is my family – my wife Francesca and our two wonderful children Alcina and Seamus. We live in Portland, Oregon and spend our time trying to get outside with our dogs as much as we can.
